Question Help with Earthlink connection and KPPP

I am running Red Hat 9. I am trying to connect to the Internet using my Earthlink account using KPPP. It appears that I am logging onto the network but then I get an exit status of 16 and the error mesage the pppd daemon died unexpectedly. I have verified my username, account and access number. All are correct and my account is active. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If this is still an unresolved issue, maybe you have to tell us a bit more like exact modem brand and version, and the output from running kppp in debug mode.

Sure. The modem is a U.S Robotics V.92 56K Faxmodem. Here is my output:

Login Script Debug Window:
ATZ
OK
ATM1L3
OK
ATDT15404286005
CONNECT 28800/ARQ/V34/LAPM/V42BIS

Then I get:
The pppd died unexpectedly!
Exit status: 16

PPP Log:
Jun 16 06:37:08 username pppd[1950]: pppd 2.4.2b1 started by root, uid 0
Jun 16 06:37:08 username pppd[1950]: Using interface ppp0
Jun 16 06:37:08 username pppd[1950]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
Jun 16 06:37:09 username pppd[1950]: CHAP authentication failed
Jun 16 06:37:15 username pppd[1950]: Connection terminated.
Jun 16 06:37:15 username pppd[1950]: Exit.

KPPP's Diagnosis:
Check that you supplied the correct username and password!

I have another dial up account that works just fine. I do not understand why I am having problems with Earthlink.

Check your email/password, change the Authentication Type in KPPP to CHAP/PAP, and try another access number.

I figured it out!

Well, I finally got connected to Earthlink. I am using PAP authentication but the clencher was my username. Apparently, my user name that I was entering had to be username@earthlink.net. I was using just my username. No problems once I did this.
