yeah it's a unix only protocol generally, although there are windows clients like winaxe, which unsuprisingly cost a packet. to share with windows you'd typically use Samba.
well yes it's the same as setting up a share in samba, but it's at a lower level so it needs less messing around with due to the existing security layers of linux.
