HELP I've tryed everything

I posted this in the slackware forums but no one can seem to help me. I'm hoping some of you networking gurus that usually don't visit the slackware forum see this because I need all the help I can get at this point and would really like to know wtf I'm doing wrong... lol

This is somewhat of a double post but no one so far in the slackware forum can figure this one out.

In order to use the gateway 192.168.1.1 the NIC connecting to this gateway needs to be on the same subnet so give it an address like 192.168.1.2 and the same mask as the gateway box then give the gateway as 192.168.1.1. You also need to specify in /etc/resolv.conf what the DNS address of your isp is. I am not sure how the gateway box is handling forwarding. This needs to be in place in order for it to identify packets coming from this box and to then return them back.
