Question Help: Can't see the Linux box in WinXP

Hi all, I' m a newbie with Linux network. Now using RH 7.2, I'm setting up a network with Linux server, 1 winXP and 1 win98 PC. I edit the smb.conf as behind, setting a samba user in Linux and log in under this user in Win98, I can see and access the Linux box easily. But in the winXP, when log in as the samba user, I even didn't see the Linux box in My network computer.
I'm now using the ipchains fire wall to share internet for all the computer and it work great. When I ping the Wins and linux PC, everything OK.
Is there any setting need to WinXP or did my ipchains block samba service ?
Here is my smb.conf :

[global]
netbios name = Linux
server string = Samba %v
security = user
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF = 8192
[global]
netbios name = Linux
server string = Samba %v
security = user
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF = 8192
interfaces =eth0
coding system = euc
client code page = 932
dns proxy = no
workgroup = WORKGROUP
hosts allow = 192.168.0.

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
browseable = yes
public = yes
writable = yes
create mask = 0775
directory mode = 0775
[public]
path = /
public = yes
writeable = yes
guest ok = yes

Any suggestions will be appreciated !

sometimes windows doesnt see the linuxbox, so you need to goto add network place and then try to add the box with the user and password. if this works maybe it will start showing the box form the next time you boot.

you may need to enable wins support in the smb.conf
I am assuming you can still map to shares on the linux box? with the ipchains?
If you can then it is just a matter of the linux box broadcasting names via wins, also you may need to set up Lmhosts on your xp!

I was able to see my xp box when using samba as a wins server.
now I have samba as my primary domain controller and it shows it no problem (although samba is still using wins support)

hope that helps.

I use security = share in my smb.conf
works fine with win98 & xp.
Security not much of an issue since only self & wife on
network.
