Having trouble networking with SMB://
I have recently installed Mandrake linux 9 on an IBM Aptiva (200mhz 160mb RAM cdrom floppy etc) and i have successfully connected this and another AMD Athlon 1800+ machine running xp. They can see each other and the Athlon can see the Aptiva but cannot browse its files. This i think is because of the password but the main problem comes while trying to use files on the AMD machine from the Linux box.
i open an archive and it asks me if i want to open it or to save it to disk and no matter what i do it tries to copy the file to either a temp folder or where i specified but stops there. it doesn't copy but says "Copying..." and sits there like that forever, not doing anything can someone help, i'm out of fiddling ideas!!! |
i had the problem... but annoyingly enough, i can't remember how i fixed it! lol
i think it was something to do with permissions... either on the file or directory itself, or on the samba share. just as a test, can you try and chmod the file to 777 and see if it'll copy then?? create a new useless file to test it with if you'd rather not chmod important stuff to 777. Also... what's it chmod'd to at the moment? 644? |
i dont know what chmod is nor how to use it,
i'm the newbie fromm hell i know a little but not enough i found the mount -t smbfs -o technique but thats really mundane any other suggestions??? |
