what security mode you use? share or user?

I think you can use valid user option,
and you need to add user with 'smbpasswd -a'
example:-

[shares]
comment = your share folder
path = /home/share
valid users = user1
browseable = yes
read only = no

Regards,
Ks

Check on how the folder is shared. It may be set up on the XP machine to require a username and password.

On the XP machine with the share, right click on the directory and look at the properties.

Sometimes the quickest fix is to do it over. Unshare the effected xp directory and reshare it. Since others work, I think either something is wrong with the share or that XP's setup.
