Having Mandrake use my xp net connection...

Hi,

Great forum , like it , lots of useful info.

My question is related to setting up my new mandrake 10.1 box to use my xp's net connection.

I had a friend who used a previous distribution a while ago and said as far as making the 2 machines aware of each other all he had to do was plug them in via their NIC's.

Both my box's have the same motherboards with the same onboard LAN, and both machines have the NIC's propperly configured so as far as I can tell no errors as far as the hardware is concerned.

My problem lies where XP says the network cable for my NIC is unplugged and I'm stumped what to do on the linux end, altho I have tried playing around with the Mandrake control centre....

Has anyone got any direct experience with this that could help me? In case it doesn't show I'm a new user to linux, but I want to make the most of it.

Cheers in advanced

Are u sure that u used the right cable. If u are connecting two pcs directly, u should use crossover cable. If u r connecting pcs together using a hub, u should use straight cable. And check the led lights of the nics. Good luck

Cheers
