could you please run "lspci" in terminal and post the results here. This will show us if your desktop can see the card.

Let me start over, I have a compaq evo d515 2.4/512/27 computer, dual boot of win-xp and ubuntu 8.04. With a netgear wg 311 v2 pci wireless adapter. The apartment I stay at has a wireless internet network that I want to hook up to. Was given a password using password and enter a little information was able to get on with my win-xp side. Now with Ubuntu 8.04 I install ndiswrapper ,in the terminal found my network card and chipset, install my win-xp netgear drivers, made sure ndiswapper and drivers are install, went to network window enter network name and password don't know what kind of WEP key it is need help to finish configuring network and card hookup, Thanks in advance Leroyg

Usually it can automatically detect what type of encryption it is. Is there any reason why you're using ubuntu 8.04? They're up to 9.10.

You could try installing wicd. (It's a network manager)
'sudo apt-get install wicd'

Sorry it took so long to get back, but is there another way of getting my netgear wg 311 adapter to run without using ndiswrapper. Which did not work for me. Thanks in advance, Lerpyg

Could you please do:

lspci -vv -s 05:04.0

And post output here.
Thanks

Why do you think that ndiswrapper doesn't work for you?

First if you could give me step by step instruction to get netgear wireless card program I might be able to get it to work, but the instruction I have doesn't work, if not instructions how about a link that might work for my oper system Ubuntu 8.04 thanks, Leroyg.

leroyg 11-29-2009 02:30 PM

After going over my notes and googling again I tried again, make sure ndiswrapper is install, use my netgear cd and install win-xp drivers. Went to System-Administration-Network-Network Settings, click on Wireless Connection, then go to network icon on right top of monitior and right click icon and click on enable networking and enable wireless, then left click network icon click on network name, start up internet and after you connect to internet it might ask for login name and pass word. Thanks for help Leroyg

Well done getting it to finally work. I recommend marking this thread as solved, it is in the thread tools menu.
