Geting Remote IP address from Remote MAC Address

hi friends,

How to get IP address of Remote Machine from MAC Address of Remote machine. I have a server and some clients , each machine(client as well as server) ip has been changing a specific interval of time. Each client knows the MAC address of Server Machine. So how to get IP address of Server from its MAC address. Please give me a solution as soon as possible.

Thanks and Regards

It sounds as if you have your clients on dhcp. If the lease time is too short, wouldn't be easier to extend the lease time or don't you have access to the dhcp server?

arp command may work or netstat or using wireshare may offer clues.

If you knew the mac address of the server you could temp assign a static ip to the mac and access it. Then use it's commands to find ip address. Be sure to delete the static arp.

Wireshark

You could capture some traffic using tcpdump. Then apply a filter based on the machines MAC address. It should then show you the IP of that computer.

If it is a small subnet ping every address and check your arp cache.
