generate large amount of traffic data

The generated traffic can be fragmented packets or not, it doesn't really matter to me.

I'm helping setup a snort/acid/apache IDS lab assignment and part of doing that is generating a DOS attack.

I tried 'ping -f -s 65507 -t 100 90.0.2.10' which does generate some but I need like lots more. The machine has a gigabit ethernet port so its gonna take some doing.

What do you all recommmend? (windows binary applications are also welcome)

try the hping3 packet generator:
http://www.hping.org
If you search the wiki, you'll find denial-of-service scripts to use.
