General Samba Inquiry

I have samba set up and works fine but I only get about a 2Mb transfer rate. Now I know samba has a large overhead but I was just wondering what does everyone else get on their tranfer rates average.

I've got like 46Mbit/s (= 5,75 Mbytes/s) on 2 machines connected via 100Mbits/s cards and a switch. Our networking people told me I ought to be happy as this was 'close to perfect'.

wow

Did you do any tweaking of the mtu or the tcp windows. Or were you just off to the races like that.

No special tweaking, and just a base smb.conf.

Check the hard disk speed to see if it's a bottleneck.

Run ifconfig to check for errors.
