Gaim and new e-mail notification

Hi. I've just started using gaim and i'm hapy with it apart from one thing, there's no links to my hotmail inbox and it doesn't tell me if i have a new e-mail. it was muhch easier with msn messenger when i just logged in and it told me if i had new messages.

what other IM clients do you recommend which has this feature?

gaim does in fact have this feature. Maybe it is not enabled by default? Go to the accounts window(Ctrl+A), select your MSN/Hotmail account, hit the modify button. Under User Options there should be a checkbox for New Mail Notifications.
