Where is your scoreboard file located and what are the permissions on it?
Mine is in the /var/proftpd directory and is only readable and writeable for root. If you are starting proftpd from inetd/xinetd then the file should be called proftpd-inetd other wise it will be proftpd-<pid>
You can use the command ftpwho -p pathname to point it to the right directory where it should look for it's files. You have to make sure that the user you are running ftpwho as has read permissions for that file. And for proftpd to update the file you have to make sure that the user who starts proftpd has permission to write to the file.

my scoreboard's path is /var/run/proftpd
that is specified in my proftpd.conf file as well
i set the permissions for the scoreboard file to be read and write for all ftp users. but when i run the ftpwho -p /var/run/proftpd
command i still get no output. Is my scoreboard still not writeable?
when you say the "user" who starts ftp do you mean the one specified in the conf file or any user who connects to ftp?
I'm having difficulties finding any information on the web so any help is appreciated as always
thanx
