ftp won't accept real users..

Running RedHat 7.2.

I can not get ftp to accept logins. It accepts a user and password, but then puts up a login incorrect. I am trying to log in using the system's real user ids and passwords.

I was able to log in a few days ago, when I had hand installed wu-ftp, annon.. from rpms. When I re-installed my system as a RedHat 7.2 Server (wiping drive clean), (and thus got the ftp stuff automatically) I started to have troubles.

I've tried most of the tips mentioned on this board, and in the RedHat Linux 7.2 Bible under Installing FTP.

I have telnet working fine - (in fact, my Linux system normally doesn't even have a monitor on it - I telnet in to do most things).

UPDATE: I had a syntax error in ftpaccess - I was seeing the error message in the logs, but never connected it with the error.
I fixed it, and now I can log in OK. Still takes nearly a minute to get to the login request, but it gets there.

The minute it takes to login is probably either a timeout on a dns lookup or a timeout on a ident lookup. But there have been many threads about those kind of problems before.

And while your searching, look up SSH and use that to admin your box remotely. Using telnet to admin remotely is asking to get hacked.
