ftp server access through squid proxy not working

Hi guys,

I am having more than 150 M$windows client accessing internet throgh Linux server (squid proxy server). i m using RHEL 2.1.

when i try to access some site i can login as anonymous user and like ftp.microsoft.com and ftp.linux.com [through squid proxy server as well as windows client].

But, when i try to access some other ftp site [our own ftp sever] i get following error .

error code: access denied ftp://username@xxx.xxx.xxx.xx

user anonymous

password <xxxxxxx>

genrated by squid proxy server <time> and <version>

"But when i access same ftp sever from other sourse i get connected" so there is no server problem. i got same error code with IE and firefox and opera.

Here is my squid.conf file.

# TAG: ftp_user
#Default:
#ftp_user username@xxx.xxx.xxx.xx

#Default:
ftp_list_width 64

#Default:
ftp_passive on
#ftp_passive off

#Default:
ftp_sanitycheck on

#ACL entry

acl Safe_ports port 80
acl Safe_ports port 21

#Default:
# http_access deny all
http_access allow all

#
#Recommended minimum configuration:
#
# Only allow cachemgr access from localhost
http_access allow all
http_access allow manager localhost
# Deny requests to unknown ports
#http_access deny manager
# Deny CONNECT to other than SSL ports
http_access allow !Safe_ports

I am unable to connect our external ftp server[own server] through squid proxy[from windows client], but when I tried to connect to ftp server from Linux server it is fine, what is the problem?

so can any one guide me how can slove this issue.

other thing i have setup on Squid Linux server.

1) service ipchains stop
2) i m using wu-ftpd server and under ftpaccess file i have given access for anonymous.

I am using CISCO 2500 router and have setup rules to access ftp services and other ports.. [one clue is "if some site i can able to access then why NOT over own ftp server.]

one more if i setup public/private ip address on my windows PC and try to access ftopm cuteFTP client it connected.

i am using same squid prot [3128] for http and ftp and tried with default port [21]. stil not working.

Pls help me....

Thank in Adv.

If you are going to be doing a lot of ftp, don't rely on squid for it. I set-up a Frox ftp-proxy on my Squid server and it is fantastic. It runs on port 21 and is bulletproof. FTP has always been an afterthought for Squid, as its primary purpose is http caching.

As Frox is a stand-alone ftp proxy, no special configuration to Squid is necessary. Here is the readme for frox, which should get you up and running. Additionally, there are webmin modules available for frox and squid, if you want a GUI configurator.

http://frox.sourceforge.net/README
