ftp passive mode ?
 

this should (i hope) be simple

on my redhat 8 machine, From a terminal, i type ftp sitename, and longin , do an ls
and all is fine..

doing the same think, on redhat 9. i get this passive error
if i type "passive", it returns "passice off", then it too is fine

any way, to set a "default" ("like passive=off") FOR THE "terminal based" ftp

(is there a ftp.default config file, for the termnal based client)

ENVIRONMENT
ftp uses the following environment variables

FTPMODE Overrides the default operation mode.
Support values are:
active active mode FTP only
auto automatic determination of passive or active (this is the default)
gate gate-ftp mode
passive passive mode FTP only
