Free DSL?

OK.......new to DSL from dialup. On Wxp box I have to install DSL software, enter name , password, etc.

On MDK 10.0 box, I just make new connection from LAN to DSL modem (same modem as XP) with no names, no passwords, etc.

I don't know much about DSL signal other than it "rides" on the analogue phone line, but If I am able to get online thru my linuxbox without names, passwords, etc., how is this possible and why am I paying a monthly fee for the Wxp box?

You're paying a monthly fee for the connection that goes to your computer. In Windows it just asks for your username and password to ensure you're the correct person to be using the connection you already paid for. Mandriva doesn't care.
