FIREWALL similar to Zone Alarm
Hi everybody.
I'm a newbie and I have a Linux box with Red Hat 7.3 connected in a LAN with other WIN2000 machines and connected to Internet.
I'd like to have for my Linux box a personal firewall as similar (and secure) as possible to Zone Alarm 3 (I use it in win2000 machines).
I want that only PC in my LAN can access FTP server, mail server and web server installed on my linux box (or access to it via SSH).
Does such a firewall exist?
(with a gui, if possible)
Can anybody suggest to me a solution?
Or can anybody suggest to me an easy way to configure the firewall that comes with Red Hat 7.3 ? Is it enough secure?
if you have got a spare 'old' computer try for inst.
smoothwall, it's good to control and setup. Control
by your web browser. It's got a web proxy, intrusion
detection, dhcp, vpn ssh server etc etc.
i know there are plenty others but i use this one and
i think it's great.
regards
linux has ONE firewall, it is iptables. end of story*
* ipfwadm and ipchains don't count
I's *not* called iptables, but Netfilter. And like ipchains iptables is just an *interface*. And no, I don't put down an opinion on which one is better untill I have the cold hard facts.
I used Zone alarm for a really long time when I still used Windows and what I like the best for Linux is Guarddog. It's a gui front end for iptables and ipchains. Setting up a firewall for Linux does have a bit of a learning curve but you'll find that the docs help alot.
