Question firewall rules

Hi all,

recently a friend of mine told me that it is possible to set firewall rules in a switch, AFAIK it is not possible.

how valid is this claim of my friend ?

I'm not a network guy, but this is my guess:

Firewalling is mainly done on the network layer on the ISO model, and since switches in principle operates on the data link layer I agree with you - I don't think this is common/possible. I guess one _could_ set up some link layer firewalling, but that's a different topic.
