Post Firestarter will not start

Hello,

I am trying to run Firestarter to configure my firewall. When I run it, I receive the message "A proper configuration for Firestarter was not found." I used Synaptic to install the RPM. It did hang at the end of the installation, but I do seem to at least have it partially installed (Firestarter is on the K Menu).

I then downloaded the RPM to try to install it again (Synaptic reports it's installed). When I try to install with the command:

rpm -Uvh firestarter-0.9.3-1.i386.rpm

I receive a segmentation fault error.

I am using Fedora Core 1 with KDE 3.2.2. I really need to open up some ports. Can anyone help me with these errors? Or maybe suggest an alternative if nothing else.

Thanks very much in advance!

Brad

If you just want to configure your firewall and are not fussed about having to use Firestarter, you may wish to consider using Webmin. This is a Web-based administration tool written in Perl. <http://www.webmin.com/>

I use this for firewall maintenance on all my machines (mostly SuSE, one Fedora).

If you haven't got the other packages set up right for your firewall, Webmin should tell you! (It did for me.)

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi kbcnetau,

Oddly enough, I was trying to open up a port for Webmin! I looked at Webmin's firewall section, but didn't understand how to use it. I did get Firestarter to work. The second time I tried it, Synaptic reported Firestarter WASN'T installed. So I had it install the RPM again, and this time it worked!

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate the help.
