Firestarter problem?
Hello,
I have something weird happening here, or at least to me.
I am running Firestarter on Ubuntu 5.10. Connected by LAN to a D-link DSL-G604T ADSL router. The router is also connected to other systems.
When Firestarter senses and "attack" and block it and categorise it as a serious inbound connection (one of them is my PocketPC conecting to the PC by PPP). It would block off my internet gateway IP address (it would show up under the blocked connection).
When doing so my internet connection would be frozen for a good 15 minutes or so. And so is the internet connection of whole network.
Some suggested that it might be problem with the router and no way that it has anything to do with Firestarter. However:
- This would never happen before a Linux systems came into this network.
- I can replicate the situation every time by leaving the Firestarter on and atttempting to connect my PocketPC to my PC. Despite the PocketPC's IP and the required ports are allowed. And btw, I can never connect my PocketPC with firestarter on.
This seems illogical to me, unless Firestarter is able to communicate with the router or the ISP. What is happening here? Please prove my assumption wrong, and better yet, prevent this from happening.
Thank you.
