Find out a remote mac address


hello,

this is probably a stupid question, but how can i find out a mac address of another host on my network based on its ip address?

MAC addresses don't route, so the IP address would have to be of a host on your network. You may have to ping the IP first.
/sbin/arp -a 192.168.1.1

I know this is years later, but thank you, exactly what I was looking for.

No i need to get code in c that gives the mac address of the given ip of my lan without getting it from arp cache.
