fc10 slow networking, impacts X11

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to fedora 10 and an issue has come up. Networking is very slow. When i ping a server inside my building, the ping time seems fine but it takes a lot of time before outputing the first ping time. Similarly, when loading firefox, starting to load a page takes ages. Once the page has started loading it is fairly fast. Also, when I start a graphical application, it looks as though the X11 hangs for a while before launching the program, as if it were trying to resolve some hostname or something.
I did not post this to the fedora community as i think the X issue is not related to fedora.
Thank you for the help

off the bat this does sound quite a bit like a DNS issue as you mention. check out your name servers are correct and do digs or nslookups directly against any you use to see how they are working.
