Fail to add a local user in a computer working with NIS

Hi,

The computer works in the environment of NIS and the os is federo core 1. I want to add a local user to the computer and login as a local user. I can add a new user successfully, but I can’t give a password to the new user. After run the command “passwd”, I get the following information.

#passwd localusername
To change your shell run chsh
To change your finger info run chfn

It means that I can’t login with the local user name. I don’t know what to do about this.

Would you like to give me some help to login as a local user? Thanks

Peng
