sounds like the dev packages are missing...

I don't know Ubuntu very well, but you should have yum (Yellow dog Updater, Modified).

Code:
what's the output of:

sudo yum provides autoconf

and

sudo yum provides automake
both should say "installed" before you try again

sorry, to install them you would need to run
Code:
sudo yum install autoconf automake
or try "yumex" if you prefer a GUI

ns2 (X)Ubuntu : is it ' ns-allinone-2.34 ' ? Please specify.

@phlyer : no yum in Ubuntu.

sudo apt-get install autoconf
.. will do.

Some further instructions here
http://nsnam.isi.edu/nsnam/index.php/User_Information
> > http://nsnam.isi.edu/nsnam/index.php...allation_Guide

And the "LQ Search" → 'Tag Name' = ns2.

ns2

@knudlf: it is ns-2.34.But while trying execute your command of installing the autoconf it is showing that-
Package autoconf is npt available but is referred to another package. This may mean that the package is missing or has been obsoleted or is only available from other source
E: package autoconf has no installation candidate

That's odd. I have ' autoconf ' installed on Ubuntu 9.10.
The default ' autoconf ' is version 2.64.
You should be able to see that in Synaptic.

May be try : sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install autoconf

Else please do ..
sudo apt-get install autoconf2.59

.. to see, what happens.
