Exporting a filesystem

Hi all,

This may be a silly question but what exactly does this mean in /etc/exports:

/usr2/kick *(ro,root_squash,sync)

I know that i'm exporting a directory /usr2/kick. But after that what do all the terms mean? It does work but i want to know, tried google search, no explanation....

Thanks

ro means read only, root_squash means that nfs won't trust requests made as root on the client, sync/async refer to whether it can reply to requests before changes are written. man exports probably has the details.

>>edit: also see this for root_squash:
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto...ty_nfsd_mountd

and this for sync/async:
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto...c_versus_async
