Unhappy Ethernet problem


Correction to my post... The Ethernet controller is NOT picking up the IP address from the cable modem.

If you cable modem support dhcp then you will need to make sure the dhcpcd program is run when the network card is initialized.
If the modem has a static IP, your linux box may just have to be configured for that IP address. You will have to also set the broadcast, netmask, gateway and DNS server addresses if there is no DHCP.
