Ethernet connection to an authenticated network via dhclient

All,

I'm a university student having difficulties
getting my laptop connected to the university's
network. I'm using debian with dhclient
to configure my ethernet for DHCP. My
ethernet card is detected, but
when I do:
Code:
`dhclient eth0'
I receive no DHCP offers, as you can see:
Code:
ppp0: unknown hardware address type 512
sit0: unknown hardware address type 776
ppp0: unknown hardware address type 512
sit0: unknown hardware address type 776
Listening on LPF/eth0/00:d0:59:16:41:aa
Sending on LPF/eth0/00:d0:59:16:41:aa
Sending on Socket/fallback
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 7
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 20
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 17
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 9
No DHCPOFFERS received.
No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.
The network is
authenticated -- on a properly configured
system, one is challenged with a
login when they open their browser
on a URL.

So far, I have an empty dhclient.conf file.

I'm open to using another tool, but I would
prefer that I'm able to access the web
without having to start X (I'll have to
figure out how to pass my authentication
credentials without opening a browser).

I have a moderate amount of linux experience,
but until presently, I've used a dial-up
connection, and this is quite new for me.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Michael

What about possibly running a text based browser like lynx or links2? That might get you around your problem. I had similar issues when I was in college. My work around was to register with Windows then use linux. I hope this helps.
