Ethernet Bridge Tables on kernel 2.6.*

Hi!

I am currently trying to set up router/NAT on my Slackware 9.1 machine using 2.6.4 kernel. I am going through NAG2, IP Masquerade-Howto etc. (Not completed yet). Anyhow, as I have to configuring my kernel, I came across Ethernet Brigde Tables which is a sub group of Network Packet Filtering. What is the difference between Ethernet Brigde Tables and IP Tables? Do I need it? Does it offer better performance then normal IP tables? If yes, where can I get help to do it? Or better still, tell me how to do it. Thanks in advance

Ethernet bridging works at a Layer below IP networking.

It is quite a different animal and only used for v. advanced routing scenarios..

For good iptables info, read this iptables tutorial.
