Well, thus far in my hunt, the closest thing I have discovered in linux to doing what I want is
ebtables, however it appears that this can only "mark" packets (assign number of 1, 2, or 4) to them, and create filtering rules to match the numbers--not near as sophisticated as openbsd's tagging capabilities in which I can name the tags whatever I want.
I guess the latest release was this year, so the project still seems active.
Anyone use ebtables?
