ethernet bridge software

Hello LQ:

Does anyone know of ethernet bridge administration software in linux besides brctl?

A bridge created with openbsd's ifconfig can tag (give names to) ethernet frames such that its firewall (pf) can filter based on the tags.

I don't think brctl in linux can tag ethernet frames, and was wondering if anyone knew of any other bridge control application in linux that included such a "tagging" feature?

I don't know about anything besides brctl.

Is routing an option? Then you can use ip(6)tables.

ebtables

Well, thus far in my hunt, the closest thing I have discovered in linux to doing what I want is ebtables, however it appears that this can only "mark" packets (assign number of 1, 2, or 4) to them, and create filtering rules to match the numbers--not near as sophisticated as openbsd's tagging capabilities in which I can name the tags whatever I want.

I guess the latest release was this year, so the project still seems active.

Anyone use ebtables?
