eth1 doesn't go up automatically when system sart.

I use debian.
I have two NIC. The first is ok: goes up when system start, according to my /etc/network/interfaces.
Why not eth1???
This is my /etc/network/interfaces:

# The loopback interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The first network card - this entry was created during the Debian installation
# (network, broadcast and gateway are optional)
auto eth0 eth1
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.11
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.0.0
broadcast 192.168.0.255
gateway 192.168.0.1

#added by me
iface eth1 inet static
adderss 192.168.50.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.50.0
broadcst 192.168.50.255

suggestions??

is not a problem of subnet. in fact if I configure it manually (ifconfig eth1 192.168.50.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 etc..) everything is ok.

Do you have a working network on both interfaces ?

I have two NICs and I'm running Mandrake 10. The first one is configured for cable & dhcp and comes up ok at startup. The second is not connected to anything, just configured for static ip. The second interface does not come up at boot. I've been assuming that it's due to lacking network cable :-)

I think I have the solution for you. Edit your second nic to this:

#added by me
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.50.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.50.0
broadcast 192.168.50.255
