eth0,eth1


Hi
I have recently installed linux mandrake and i am trying to connect to net.My machine is connected to a lan and has a nic card.During the installation procedure the machine has detected two ethx(eth0,eth1).In most machines i had hoped it shld normaly wud have dectected jus one eth0.I dont have a modem in my box

Wonder wats wrong with my machine

It's strange. Maybe you have a buil-in NIC and an external one? You need to find out which one is the right one. Look into Mandrake settings and see if they look the same or are different. If they're different, I guess you're able to decide which is the one you use. Then change the IP assigned to the other one to a local one, not from your network (for example 192.168.1.0) and configure the right one.

In mandrake hardware

the following is displayed

Ethernetcard
decchip 21040[tulip]

Bridge(s)
82371FB PIIX ISA[TritonI]
430FX-82437FX TSC[Triton I]

I suspect the box is recognizing the bridge as another card or something
-I aint got any clue

also the hardware address of eth0 and eth1 are same and base address 2
plz help

Configure eth1 as 192.168.1.1, use eth0 as your only card. If the configuration program does not change the default gateway, run from console:
route del default
route add default gw eth0

and when i try to modify the ip address the system froze requiring me to reboot causing errors in my disk

is there any way to recover frm this deadlock (froze) without having to reboot

Sorry, I made a mistake. It should be
route del default
route add defaut gw yourgateway
(From your first post I understand that the gateway is 192.208.32.1, so 'route add default gw 192.208.32.1').
