I am using RedHat 8 on my Dell i8200. I am experiencing problems establishing an internet connection. I am using dhcp and the network cards configuration seems perfect. While pinging, packets are transmitted but receiving packets are logged against errors, overruns and frames.
I am using the 3Com 3c590/3c595/3c90x/3cx980 drivers.
If I had to guess I'd say between the card and whatever it's connected to one of them thinks it's full duplex and the other thinks it's half. The kernel driver for that card has worked for me with 595s 905s 905Bs, 980s and even a 597, so I doubt it's a driver thing. Which actual card do you have and what is the device it's plugged into, brand and model and what it is ie 3C905B-TX-N to Linksys 4400 ADSL 1 port router?
Well, check logs to see if it came up half or full duplex, most cable modems are half duplex if they have multiple ports and full if they have only one ethernet port out.
Also, that card is one of the newer ones, you could try 3Com's drivers, it loads a different named module so you have to make sure you tell linux to stop loading 3c59x and load the new 3c90x. 3Com should have docs with the driver on how to force duplex with the driver, I can't remember since I haven't used it in ages but I do know when you set duplex you also have to set speed at 10 or 100.
(/bonk self...and I just said the driver probably wasn't it, doh!)
