Question ERROR: smbfs filesystem not supported by the kernel?

I got this error when trying to smbmount a Samba shared folder to a local machine:

Quote:
ERROR: smbfs filesystem not supported by the kernel
Please refer to the smbmnt(8) manual page
smbmnt failed: 255
Is there a loadable module or some other way to get around this?

Thanks!

The module name is smbfs In newer kernels it's been deprecated and it's better to use cifs

I just figured that out by reading that it was no longer maintained from samba website and instead of using smbmount I used "mount -t cifs ...." and it worked.

But how to still use some options that are only available to smbmount, for example, KRB? Is there such option in mount cifs with using kerberos?

Thanks!
