i don't know why this isnt working, but i am unable to send email with Kmail. it worked fine in suse 8.2. but completely fails in mandrake 10
here is the error
Sending failed:
Your SMTP server doesn't support authentication.
The server responded: "LOGIN mechanism not supported"
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:

ironicly these are the exact same setting i used in suse 8.2. also a friend has a similar problem. so i know this has to be a bug. also it can get worse in that the email client will completely fail, if you probe for settings in the recieving section.
i think this is a problem with the core KDE component that handles mail. i tried useing mozilla with similar results. if this is a bug how can i fix it? is there a patch, if not is there aways to get it to work?
If its also in Mozilla then its nothing to do with KDE, ( Mozilla doesn't use any KDE components. ) It could be a firewall problem i.e. The SMTP LOGIN authentication is being blocked, or isn't used by your ISP. Try using PLAIN.
I had a similar issue with Kmail/Kontact as well. I found an obscure reference after many hours of Googling (I'm persistant sometimes). It basically went away when I followed the advice in the post I found, wherever it was (sorry for no quotes).
I killed all the accounts and set up a "default" account and entered all the information through it. Then, I set everything up as far as inbound POP/IMAP and outbound SMTP settings. By creating this "default" user "profile", I was able to send mail. Drove me nuts for about a month, though. I hope this is what you're experiencing.
sounds about right, firewall is not installed anyway.
asi said i have all the correct information, it worked in kde 3.1. i guess i will have to play with it more
