Dynamic DNS Server.
Are there any open-source dynamic DNS servers available? I can find dynamic DNS clients all day long, but haven't been able to find a dynamic DNS server.
I know I can do this with BIND, however it would also require BIND be installed and configured on the client side to do the updates, and BIND on the client side would be overkill. I'd like a dynamic DNS server that will work with the many dynamic DNS clients that are already out there. Any ideas? |
do u mean by this
u have server with dynamic connection? u want to activate domain for you machine? if this u need, go to dyndns.org example what i have done http://rou.homelinux.net or u want to become provider like dyndns.org ? |

Most dynamic DNS services have a thin client that runs on the client machine and sends IP information to the server. They're usually custom programs.

The problem I'm having is trying to find a dynamic DNS server that follows the same protocol that all of these dozens of clients do. |
"Most" and "usually" are not definitive statements. I'm just relaying my experiences.

I apologize if I misinterpreted your statement. My experience mostly revolves around dyndns.org, which doesn't use custom clients. It follows that standard dynamic DNS protocol. AFAIK, and there are dozens of clients that work with it that they did not create. I would like to run a dynamic DNS server that would also work with these same clients (i.e. a server that follows the dynamic DNS protocol).
