hi
i am totally new to linux. i wanted to know how to configure my network card. i put my ip address and things...and i am able to access internet. but i am not able to telnet to my computer.
what shld i do???
i am a complete illiterate as far as linux goes. i dont even know how to edit files. it wld be great if someone can guide me thru this completely.

Well to begin, you can telnet by typing telnet followed by the IP address. Remember you can't login remotely as root either. You must telnet into you linux box using a regular user account besides root. You might not have telnet started either. But what kind of errors are you getting when attempting ot telnet.
Best way to edit files well is to use an editor. I personally like vi. But there are others like pico. Best thing to do is get familiar with the one you like best. And I always recomnmend vi due to it is about on any Linux/Unix system. Not all others are always there.
