dummy interface

Hi

I'm trying to configure 'dummy interface' on my notebook. But when I type :

Code:
ifconfig dummy `hostname`
I get the following output :
Code:
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
dummy: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
What is wrong ?

thx for help.

Normally, one Googles around a bit for an answer. It is really more helpful/efficient way to find the answer.
But, now that this was initiated, could you please provide us with more info:
- output of ifconfig
- contents of /etc/network/interfaces
- output of 'dmesg' or the syslog log messages associated with a performed operation.
