This isn't exactly a linux specific question but rather computer specific. My friend has a verizon dsl account. They supply him with one ip address. His roomate got a computer and they said in order for her to have access, she has to get a separate phone line. Is there a way to use a router to connect both computers? And could they connect to the internet simultaneously? I know how to do this with my cable modem, but I don't know much about DSL. Thanks for any help.
yes....if they have some spare hardware and can build a computer enough to run linux...they can use it as a router(i'm in the process of doing this now)....or they can go out and buy a linksys 4 port cable/dsl router $140......go to http://www.lanparty.com for all your networking questions...those guys there can hook you up with any question like this...
Distribution: Redhat v8.0 (soon to be Fedora? or maybe I will just go back to Slackware)

I presume your friend is running Win98 or Win2000. He can use Internet Connection Sharing to get them both online as well.
You can also purchase Nat32 (http://www.nat32.com) to get the same result. I use Linux but I have friends that do it the other way with the same results.
So I went ahead and bought the linksys 4 port router and that worked great. I didn't want to leave it up to windows to route it all. If anyone else comes into this situation, I'd recommend this router. A few months ago, I got cable off my sister. The guys at her work told her to use a hub. I never really gave it much thought, but the problem was, I had to get another ip address, which usually costs money, but since she works there it was free. So I'd recommend this router in the future to anyone.
