dropping wireless setting

Did not know where to turn so I decided to give LQ a try. I am running Slackware current as of April 19 2011. My wireless card is a intel3945. I have configured /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf to the proper settings for my network. Network security is WEP > I know, I know, might as well not have security.

Here is the problem > if my latop is idle for a few min all settings are dropped. This is confirmed by issuing iwconfig. Interestingly the setting stay if I keep a persistent connection (e.g., irrsi) running in the background.

When checking dmesg for errors I do see wlan0 loosing authentication Error 6.

Thanks guys.

Hello divadgnol67,

I'm running Slackware-current on two Laptops, one with a Broadcom- and one with an Atheros adapter. Both don't disconnect when the system is idle. I'm using wpa2 security.

I suspect that your problem has something to do with the intel-adapter or with the driver. Does the adapter have something like a energysaving-function?

Markus
