what should I be looking at if my wireless drops connection and wont re-connect because it is stuck on trying to get IP? It is a ralink usb adapter and I am connecting to a Belkin router.

Does the connection authenticate successfully? If so does your device get and address from DHCP and is this successful. I found that I need to disable IPv6 support or my Linksys wireless router has problems. Check if your system has the DHCP v6 client enabled.

Interference is another possibility. Try a different frequency. I've had a successful connection on my Archos tablet which drops just after an attempt is made to use it.

Check any logs, such as /var/log/messages, /var/log/NetworkManager. If you don't use NetworkManager, try wpa_cli to observe what is happening.
