dropping connection

I have a linux box acting as a gateway.

I have 3 nics on it:
eth0 is internet/gateway to ISP
eth1 is personnel side
eth2 is house side (no problems for this as it is just used to connect to internet)

the eth1 side dhcp I excluded the gateway as the client machines are windows2000. I manually set the gateway on the machines because I have 2 gateways they use. The first gateway I set to internet (eth1 IP address). The second gateway IP is the gateway of my second cisco router we have which connects our frame/database. We use remote desktop to connect to a database through the second gateway, but it keeps getting disconnected after being up for 10 - 15 minutes.

I have set IP Masquerade for internet. I have put in a route for all IP requests for the database IP number scheme to go through the second gateway. Connection are there, but again, like I said it disconnects every 10 - 15 minutes.

I did have INPUT policy set to DROP and put in internet port as ACCEPT and many ports beyond 1024 as internet requires half of them to work.

Another annoying issue is that for some reason internet on the linux box doesn't work, but it does on all client machines... what is up with that? Something to do with IP Masquerade??

HELP PLEASE!!!!
