Domain Name resolution, win*/Linux network
Hi, folks,
I have a Win98 box with a modem attached and have tried to network it to an old P75 box in which I've installed Red Hat 6.2, so I can set up a server to test web sites before uploading to the host server, as well as learning how to do sites in php/mysql.
The advice I've received says that domain name resolution should be done at the gateway, which is the win98 box with zone alarm. Ever tried dns on win98? I know win9* is full of holes but as an absolute newbie to both linux and networking and having managed to get the boxes at least pinging one-another (ip only from win to linux, ip plus name the other way round), I'd like to keep the modem set up as it is. Will it make any difference if I ignore the advice and use the linux box for dns resolution?
Many thanks to anyone who can shed some light.
