DNS with VPN

Hi All,

I have never been very good at networking so bear with me. I have my home network (10.0.0.0), I can VPN into work via vpnc (192.168.1.0). When the VPN is running I can access work address via domain name (FDNQ or otherwise), I can ping address on my home network but cannot access via domain name, and I cannot access anything outside either network (google for example).

I am not sure where to start to figure this out. I think it has something to do with adding routes of 192.168.1.0 to the tunnel created by the vpn. But I also need to use two differnt DNSes, one for my home network/the outside world, and one for work. I know this must have been solved before and I am just missing something.

Thanks for the help,

trispad

I think this has something to do with the options of the VPN tunnel from the server side. I seem to remember a security setting about allowing local network access for connected hosts. Allowing the clients to connect to a local network and the VPN allows a compromised client to act as a bridge into the the "secure" network.

Maybe if you can post additional configuration information about the VPN tunnel and client that you are using someone may be able to help you more.

I'm no expert on VPN tunnels but I hope this is some help.
