What DNS server, if bind you should google for bind9arm.pdf
Good information in there about setting up their DNS server.
Also make sure you chroot it, there is some information on doing that
available on the isc website; the example os is BSD, but it works just the same in RH Linux.
Its not clear to me if you are running an incoming mail server for a domain??
If you're not, but using someone elses server for incoming then you don't need DNS. You only need DNS to create a MX record when someone outside your network is sending email to your domain.
So I think more information is needed to really help you out with this.
Also, if you are putting a public computer on the internet acting as a mail/dns server, I'd use something newer than RH9, for security reasons. Try Fedora or enterprise.
