dns question (dig maybe)


i have a zone file myhouse.net.zone

@ myhouse.net. root.myhouse.net. (
etc
ect )
MX 10 smtp
MX 20 smtp.myfirends.net

.....
end zone file

when i type: dig myhouse.net axfr

i get:
myhouse.net. 259200 IN MX 10 smtp.myhouse.net.
myhouse.net. 259200 IN MX 20 mail.myfriends.com.myhouse.net

My domiin, appended to his email server

do I have a bug, or does dig ?????

you need to put a DOT "." after "smtp.myfriends.net" this tells it that it is allready a FQDN and no need to append the domain name to it.

Have a read of:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO.html

In section 5 it talks about the relevance of the DOT

EXECELENT..... thanks so much

Of corse i read the how-to, (like 10 times)
and bought, and read both books....
took hours of getting it, but i did....

this was ONE LIT...........TLE slip-up...... thanks again
