DNS question

I have been using BIND 9.x on a network with Microsoft clients. Every thing works okay.

I have noticed an interesting difference between Microsoft's DNS and BIND.

Microsoft's DNS tends to register both servers and clients with DNS. This takes place automatically.

Unix/Linux administrators tend to load only the servers in BIND. The ones that I have spoken to say that they only need to load the servers since all the shared resources are placed here.

What is the logic of loading all the hosts as per Microsoft DNS?

maybe so you can ping them by name

I configure mine on my local lan, mainly to access them over ssh or vnc by name.

I think that the difference is it's not automatically configured. It's left up to the sys admin.

Microsoft have a history of not following RFCs in the past, so I guess this is just another example of Microsoft doing things their way and not really caring how the rest of the world operates.
