i have a question about setting up a nameserver.

i was, until recently, running apache on my machine which had a domain pointing to the ip (using a free nameserver service). however, my cable company decided to deactivate port 80 due to the recent web infestation of code red (damn m$ windows). i was intent to just wait out the deactivation, but now it seems my cable provider intends to keep 80 offline permantently.

i've been toying with the idea of setting up my own nameserver for quite some time, and now my dillema presents enough reason to do so. my question is is it possible to setup a public nameserver (one which could be used by networksolutions to parse my domain) with linux? i know it's possible to setup an internal nameserver, but i haven't been able to find much information on public DNS.

any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated. :-)

A name server won't solve the inbound blocking of port 80. See the link in this section...
