DNS Caching not working

Hi,

I setup a DNS cache in Fedora 3. This machine also acts as the gateway through iptables masqurade.

The steps I took to setup DNS -

1) a) Changed my /etc/resolve.conf nameserver entry to 127.0.0.1. Did not work
b) Commented out nameserver entry. Also did not work.

2) Started service named. And changed config to start at boot. Service started ok. Service also starting ok at boot time.

3) Changed clients dns settings to point to local m/c where dns is running.

Yet I am unable to browse anything.

Note: When I put the DNS server settings in client m/c as my ISP's server then it works fine.

Any help would be extremely welcome.

Regards

Are you sure the DNS cache is really running?
ps -ef | grep named
If so, does it respond to queries at all?

Could you post your named.conf? You should at least have the zone "." (hint zone) to be able to use named as a caching dns:
Code:
zone "."
    { type hint;
      file "named.root";
    };
