DNS caching?

What is the point of DNS caching on a network with 1 machine, other then the purposes of learning something. Does it have any implications when running a network, how does it help?

DNS caching can improve the Internet usage experience for anyone, regardless of whether it's a stand-alone machine or a network with thousands of hosts. Not sure what you mean about learning. I've got dnsmasq installed to do caching for my house and I haven't learned anything from it. Perhaps it's due to me not making use of any of its more advanced features.

Yes, dnsmasq is good, but I'd bet if you had chosen Bind you would have learned something, even if only that Bind is more difficult to configure
